Kinja'd!!!

Was going through some old photos tonight and found this XT6 that I saw back in May on the way to the causeway while the sun was going down. Goodnight, ye olde Oppo...

An interesting note on the XT6's engine: The XT6 used the ER27, the first flat-6 produced by Subaru. The ER27 (introduced in 1988) was in Subaru's transition period between the EA flat-4 engine series (in production since 1966) and the EJ flat-4 engine series (introduced in 1989). As a result there were some odd quirks with some minor engine systems. One of which was the timing setup. The valve timing system uses two individual timing belts. Strangely, one belt uses a spring tensioner (like the EA82) whilst the other uses a hydraulic tensioner (like the EJ22).

That sounds complex. I wonder if that factors into their rarity. I've also found that '80s Subarus seemed to rust pretty easily. Almost as though they were rusty from the factory.

That must have been neat. My mother had the somewhat similar looking Prelude Si. Loved that car.

This was the Courtney Campbell Causeway, I think. Free to drive on and once you get past these lights, nothing but ocean views on both sides. Well... ocean views and beach goers.
